Hospitalization
Our philosophy at Veterinary Medical Center of Spring is to provide the
highest quality medical care for your pet and to do so in a manner that
holds consistent with our hospital's core values of honesty, integrity,
compassion and communication.
We maintain a complete on-site animal hospital for pets requiring
ongoing and/or extensive care.
If one of your pets becomes ill, he may require hospitalization. We will most
likely do the following during his stay.
Bloodwork: We will run some blood work daily to monitor how your pet is doing
during his stay.
Pain Management: Pets experience pain just as humans do. We will take steps to
minimize pain for your pet. Pain management drugs will allow him to have a more
comfortable and faster recovery.
IV Fluids: IV fluids will help your pet to maintain blood pressure, to replace
blood loss, to speed recovery, and to receive life-saving drugs in case of
emergency.
Examination: Your pet will be examined daily by the doctor. The nurses will also
be monitoring closely and carrying out the treatments as laid out by the doctor.
Progress Reports: We know that you will be worried about your pet while he is
hospitalized. Feel free to call us for a progress update. We will keep you
updated on the progress your pet is making. You may even wish to schedule a time
to come in to visit and consult on your pet’s case.
Ready to Go Home: When your pet is ready to be discharged, an appointment will
be made so that the doctor can answer your questions and explain the discharge
instructions.
In rare situations, your pet might require 24 hour care. If that is the case we
will refer his case to the Animal Emergency Clinic for over night care or
recommend that you transport your pet to Texas A&M Small Animal Hospital for
extensive testing and care.
